The BJP spent Rs 36.70 crore in Punjab in 2022, while the party spent Rs 7.43 crore in the 2017 assembly elections. Yet the party managed to win only two seats as against three in 2017.

In Goa, BJP spent Rs. 19.07 crores were spent, which is Rs. 4.37 crores, more than four times the cost.

Heavy expenditure was also incurred in Manipur and Uttarakhand.

The BJP has spent around Rs 12 crore on virtual campaigning in the assembly elections of five states. Congress has reported spending Rs 15.67 crore on virtual campaigns through social media platforms, apps and other means.

BJP and Congress are known as national parties.

A major part of the BJP's total election expenditure in five states was spent on the travel of its leaders, public meetings, processions and election campaigns.

The expenditure limit in assembly elections is Rs 40 lakh instead of Rs 28 lakh. In smaller states, candidates will now have to pay Rs. Maximum Rs. 20 lakh instead of Rs. 28 lakh can be spent.
